Especially during the 1980s, the rationalization of railway operations meant that it was necessary to shut down passenger and freight traffic on some lines and railway sections that had seen low demand, due to the fact that road transport proved to be more advantageous in such situations.

In these cases too, REFER has sought new solutions to make the most of this infrastructure, signing concession contracts with other entities, to reuse the railway platform and the adjoining buildings.
