The High-Speed Network in Portugal, which was approved in 2004, consists of five routes:
- Lisbon – Madrid
- Lisbon – Porto
- Porto – Vigo
- Aveiro – Salamanca
- Évora – Faro/Huelva
The project has been entrusted to RAVE - Rede Ferroviária de Alta Velocidade, S.A., a company that is part of the REFER Group. RAVE was created in 2000 and its mission is to develop and coordinate the tasks and studies necessary to enable decision making in order to plan, build, fund, supply and operate a high-speed railway network to be installed in mainland Portugal, and to connect it to a similar Spanish network.
